We are located in the scenic foothills of Meridian MS. We relocated here in 2012 from the beautiful east Alabama rolling hills, lush forests and other wooded areas, and we have all the space we need to have happy, healthy, and active Dachshunds. Our little slice of heaven is lush and quiet in the rural NE MS area

Save the Weenies promotes a better world! Living out here in the middle of seems-like nowhere, it's not uncommon for dogs and pups to get dropped off in ditches. We were used to having strays and pregnant bitches turn up and we'd take them in and feed them. We vetted them and found their pups homes. When I had to come out of work on disability, I started focusing my efforts on my specialty breed, the dachshund. It didn't take long, especially with the economic situation, before word of mouth had my place really rocking with intakes of all ages and health conditions. Kennel closures, death of individual owners, referrals from local veterinarians & animal control/humane societies... soon has my rescue population averaging 30 doxies/doxie mixes at any given time.
In the beginning, I also took other breeds. As my health worsened, I did have to restrict my intake and make contacts with other rescue groups so that these other dogs would not have to be euthanized. Sadly, I am only one person, and over the years I have been doing this, I have learned I cannot save them all. I have had partners, and volunteers, who have helped, but most of the time it is just me. My children help, but as they grow up and move out to build their own lives, I must rely more and more on community donations & support to function. I am a private no-kill Rescue. There is, as yet, no government support/funding here. I run a separate business, www.castillewoods.yolasite.com selling all natural castille soaps to help fund my rescue efforts.
